About Me

I experienced preterm premature rupture of membranes at initially at 14 and again at 16 weeks.

The purpose of this blog is to inform and encourage others who might be in the same situation.  Feel free to contact me, if you’d like.

As of April 2, 2010, my son Clark was home from the NICU.

Hi, thank you for starting this blog. The supplement information was very helpful. Did you find any encouraging info about amniopatches? We have a dr. willing to do one, but evidence doesn’t support good outcomes for spontaneous ruptures–still I find there’s not enough info out there for any of what we are going through.

I am 22 weeks. I pPromed at 17wk6days on October 15th. My due date is March 19th. It sounds like we are pretty close in schedule. I am so glad you are writing this. I hope we can keep in touch.

    • Hi Amber,

I ruptured originally at 14 weeks with my current pregnancy, but it was a small leak and resealed. I actually didn’t even realize what had happened until I lost all the fluid three weeks later. My AFI has been zero practically the entire pregnancy. The fluid comes and goes, even though I did retain fluid for several days at a time for about 4 consecutive weeks. I haven’t had that happen again since I’ve been in the hospital, unfortunately. There have been a couple of times where there was a pocket of fluid here and there on the ultrasound, once right on the baby’s face.

I haven’t made it to a success story quite yet…but I the best advice I can give you is to keep or develop a positive attitude. If you are experiencing pPROM, this is the one thing that will get you from day to day and week to week. It may not always be possible, but you’ll come through to the other side. I highly suggest taking vitamins C&E, I think they’re very beneficial in this situation.

If you want to keep in contact through email, I’d be happy to, just let me know.

  3. Congrats on your baby! I also read it on baby center which is how I found out and I wrote you on there too! Yes you may email me anytime. You said you did retain fluid for 4 weeks..was this on and off and do you know how much? Do you have the exact numbers when your fluid was measured? Mine has never been above 3cm. I am hoping and praying for the best. I will get the Vitamin C and E…I also seen you wrote something for uterine infection..which one was that for? Hope to hear from you soon and email me back if you would like because I didn’t even know you wrote me back until I looked on this page ;) Cant wait to hear all about your baby as well. I see a high risk doctor Tuesday. I am so glad I have made it this far and am very thankful!

This blog is absolutely wonderful. I’ve read through it twice now. Thank you for taking the time. There’s not much literature on this topic anywhwere and when this first happens, that’s what a woman craves. You were so complete. I cannot thank you enough. Hope your son is doing well in NICU.

  5. Hi, I’m in the Kanalen website email list. Someone there mentioned pads that you can order online to detect amniotic fluid – I think one brand was called Amniosense. You appear to research so much that I am tempted to believe that you have a medical background (hope you take that as a compliment!). Anyhow, I would love to know your opinion about those pads if you have heard about it. Thank you.

  6. Patty–
Thank you, that certainly is a compliment. Right now most of my professional stuff is on hold but I have always had an interest in women’s health and that is certainly the field I am most passionate about. I do loads and loads of research because it seems like there isn’t enough info out there about pprom, especially for a mother who has just experienced it.

I had never heard about the amniotic fluid sensing pads, but I did look into them after getting your comment. I think this would be a great self diagnosis tool for women. In my experience it seems that many women are unaware of their (or questioning whether they’ve experienced a) rupture for days and weeks and their doctor will sometimes write them off. I feel that women can take proactive steps to protect the pregnancy post rupture if they have confirmation. These pads would fit that bill, for sure.

These sound like a great product. I wish they were more widely available, as it seems like pprom happens quite frequently. I’m tempted to say that it happens more than the statistics would have us believe. Thank you for visiting the blog!

Thank you so much for this website! I have had to dig everywhere to find encouraging information for my situation. I cant find anyone that has something similar to my situation exactly yet. I ppromed at 17 weeks with identical twin girls. They where in one sack with one membrane seperating them before my water broke. At first they told me anything from a bladder infection to placental abruption as my diagnosis. Finally a week later I got an ultrasound and no fluid was found. Of course after that every doctor I saw said go home and wait for the worst and if your babies do make it, they wont live long. I refuse to just give up. Every ultrasound I have, my babies have strong heart beats and no abnormalities. They are little fighters. I am now 20 weeks and my goal is to make it to at least 32. Is there anyone out there who ppromed with both twins or anyone that bled the entire time? I would love to hear from you!

    • Chelsea, I am so glad you found my site. My goal is to give inspiration and so people will know that there IS a chance. I didn’t know what would happen when I was writing most of these words, but if I had it to do over again, I’d take the same supplements and do the same things I did before. There are some new resources you should know about, the 1st is the pPROM Support Group on Baby Center. There are several women here who have had success with twins. Only one have I spoken with personally, her babies did really well. Know that, as with any community, there are a range of outcomes. In my opinion, most are positive, but try not to allow the negative outcomes to affect your progress.

I want to encourage you to begin supplementing with vitamin C and Standard Process Collagen C. They are the two most important supplements I’ve found in managing pPROM. I have seen some amazing fluid retention after using the Collagen C, both with myself and others. It’s a GREAT supplement.

Email me any time if you need someone to talk to: brandy@superboyclark.com. Best of luck!

    Hi there,

Thank you for this site. I PPROM’d one week ago today. I was 14weeks5days and I am now 15weeks5days. I do not have an infection and baby has a strong heartbeat. My fluid level measured on Monday at a 7.7 and today was a 5.2. I definitely have a slow leak. They have discussed doing an amnioinfusion if I get below a 2. Do you know much about this?
Also, what supplements did you take? I have heard about Collagen C that it helps women leak less. Any thoughts? I am scared to take something until I know for certain that it can help.

Thank you for a response. I am in desperate need of hope.

Your story is a miraculous one.

    Thank you,

    Brooke
