. What week in your pregnancy did your water break?14 weeks 5 days, but my doc thought it was incontinence. I kept leaking and was finally diagnosed with pprom at 21 weeks.
    2. What was your doctor’s suggested treatment immediately afterward? At my 21 week ultrasound my ob/gyn sent me to a specialist, told me to take it easy although bed rest wasn’t proven to help. The MFM specialist suggested termination and recommended nothing else—he said nothing would help my baby since I ruptured so early.
    3. Were you administered antibiotics soon after the rupture? No – I asked for them at 21 weeks when we discovered I’d ruptured, but they made me so sick I had to stop them.
    4. Did you supplement with vitamins E or C? If so, how much? I took vitamin E, but I can’t remember how much. Just 1 pill a day (can’t remember the mg amount).
    5. Did you use any other supplements? Fish oil, prenatal.
    6. Did you increase your water intake? If so, how much? Yes, I tried to drink 64 ounces or more a day, and I drank lots of cranberry juice.
    7. Were you on bed rest? From what week? Hospital or home? From 21 weeks to 25 weeks at home, from 25w to 27w1d in the hospital.
    8. What week were you admitted to the hospital? (if applicable) 25 weeks.
    9. Were you given steroids to help mature the baby’s lungs? Yes. I got 2 doses at 24 weeks.
    10. Did you ever develop an infection? No – not even any signs in my placenta after delivery.
    11. What week did you go into labor? – 27w1d.
    12. How was your baby delivered? Vaginally.
    13. If you had a vaginal delivery, did you use pain medications? If so, which ones? I had morphine, then an epidural.
    14. What was the ultimate outcome after birth? Elaborate if you’re able. My son was 2lbs, 1 oz, with lungs the size of a 24 weeker. He was critically ill for 8 weeks, on a ventilator for 12 weeks, in the hospital for 16 weeks, on oxygen for 1 year. He’s had lots of struggles, but he’s doing great now (at 17 months old). On track cognitively despite lots of trouble keeping him ventilated those first 8 weeks, and just a little delayed with his motor skills.
    15. If you had a positive outcome, did you pump or breastfeed your baby? If so, for how long? My son had trouble eating by mouth unless we thickened his milk for about 6 months (he’d choke and gag on everything), so I couldn’t breastfeed him. I pumped until my milk dried up when he was around 7 months old, and then we put him on NeoSure formula.

    1. What week in your pregnancy did your water break? first tear 27weeks 5 days some what healed itself then further tear at 28 weeks 1 day and went into labor

    2. What was your doctor’s suggested treatment immediately afterward?
was admitted into hospital given routine antibotics, and a terbutline shot to stop the labor then betamethasone two doses and hopefully stay on bedrest at hospital until 34 weeks and then they would induce me if I didn’t have her before then.
    3. Were you administered antibiotics soon after the rupture? yes

    4. Did you supplement with vitamins E or C? If so, how much?no

    5. Did you use any other supplements?no

    6. Did you increase your water intake? If so, how much? yes I only had 3cm of fluid left in my uterus so I was incouraged to drink a lot of water was drinking around 3L a day if not more.

    7. Were you on bed rest? From what week? Hospital or home? I was on bed rest from the second tear at 28 weeks 1 day admitted into the hospital, they would not allow me to go home and be placed onto bedrest eventhough I fought for it.

    8. What week were you admitted to the hospital? (if applicable)
    28 weeks and 1 day

    9. Were you given steroids to help mature the baby’s lungs?yes two doses of betamethasone

    10. Did you ever develop an infection? no and they have no idea why my membranes ruptured.

    11. What week did you go into labor? 28 weeks 1day and then again at 29 weeks 1 day

    12. How was your baby delivered? vaginally

    13. If you had a vaginal delivery, did you use pain medications? If so, which ones? yes epidural

    14. What was the ultimate outcome after birth? Elaborate if you’re able. Alana was born 29 weeks 2 days. I did not get to hold her they rushed into the Nicu thankfully she was never intubated she stayed on room air until they put the PICC line in and the Fentanyl that is given for anthesia caused resp depression (which is a known side effect) She did have to placed on CPAP and then back to nasal canula and then off but at 32 weeks things got ruff. She began to desat had to be placed on high flow O2, had a lumbar puncture done to check for meningitis (thank GOD it wasn’t) Spetecemia ( at least that is what they thought it was) and had to have 2 blood transfusions, and her bilirubin was a major issue in which she had to have phototherapy twice. After that horrible week things improved considerably. ( The neonatologists had warned us that preemies will have a honeymoon period like she did for she did not act like a 29 weeker she acted more like a 31 weeker at birth and that it not uncommon for premeeies to have that ruff period around the 32 week mark.) She gained weight quickly and began to breastfeed/bottle feed. She would not give up the O2 nasal cannula until the 35 week when she seemed to realize that it was easier for her to breastfeed/bottle feed without it in her nose and at 36 weeks I was able to take her home on a medication called caffiene to help her with her apneas and bradys and a multivitamin and neosure formula. She came home alot earlier then the Doctors expected.

    15. If you had a positive outcome, did you pump or breastfeed your baby? If so, for how long?
I tried to breastfeed but my let down is horrible, Alana realized that bottle feeding was much easier for her so she won’t breast feed at all. (I don’t blame her I would go the easy route where I didn’t have to work so hard to get fed myself) I am still currently pumping but I don’t and never have produced enough milk for her so I have to supplement with neosure formula.

We feel extremely lucky that we did not have any issues with either of them and they were healthier than some of the older gestational aged babies. Both babies stayed in the NICU for 32 days and only weighed 4 lbs 5oz & 4 lbs 3oz when they came home. They just turned 1 years old Dec 2009 and are doing remarkably well. Most definately the steroids made all the difference.

1.. What week in your pregnancy did your water break? 20 weeks.

    2. What was your doctor’s suggested treatment immediately afterward?
At 20 week I had a watery discharge and also felt as if I had a bladder infection. I was concerned and went to the doctor. The test for amniotic fluid was negative. Ultrasound showed enough fluid and healthy baby. Urine test showed slight infection. 2 days later at night I had a gush of watery discharge and called the doctors offices. He said I should not worry as this can be normal in pregnancy. Further 2 days later mucus with slight bleeding. Bladder infection (or whatever it was) got worse. I went to see the doctor again and was hospitalised immediately.

    14. What was the ultimate outcome after birth? Elaborate if you’re able. Our baby girl was born on Oct 11/09 and had a heartbeat for 24 minutes. She was all formed and was the most beautiful being I have ever seen. We chose comfort care as oppose to having her all hooked up with tubes and not being able to hold her. We also chose comfort care due the the high possibility of disabilities. We didn’t want her to have to live a life like that. We both work in group homes and didn’t want our child to have to live that way. Anyway .. I don’t know why I’m explaining myself. I needed medication to help the placenta to detach. it did and I had no complications. They checked the placenta and said that it looked healthy and very normal. I was release from the hospital the following day.

He did not have any lung issues or other respiratory problems thanks to the steroid shots. He did have jaundice. He spent 6 days in the NICU until he was able to feed and maintain his body temperature without being incubated. We were truly blessed and lucky to have such an incredible outcome for our preemie. He was a very healthy baby (didn’t get his first cold until 9 months old) and while he was a couple months delayed on a few things, he has hit all developmental milestones just as most other kids his age. We started working on breastfeeding while my son was in the NICU. He became a champion nurser–it just took some persistence until he got it. I breastfed/pumped until my son self-weaned at 10 months old.

    1. What week in your pregnancy did your water break? 24+6 (but I felt trickling of fluid about 3-4days before that and thought it was my water leaking but called my sister and told me I was probably just peeing myself).

    2. What was your doctor’s suggested treatment immediately afterward? antibotics, strict bed rest in the hospital, steriod shots.

    3. Were you administered antibiotics soon after the rupture? yes

    4. Did you supplement with vitamins E or C? If so, how much? no

    5. Did you use any other supplements? yes the NICU neo told me to take DHA pills and also my prenatals that I was taking 3 months before I got pregnant.

    6. Did you increase your water intake? If so, how much? not really…just drank normally. I actually didn’t want to drink too much because I didn’t want to get up to go pee that much. Plus even though my water was broken I had above average fluids (my daughter had an intestinal blockage and so she kept spitting out her fluid that she couldn’t digest).

    7. Were you on bed rest? From what week? Hospital or home?Hospital bed rest from 24 weeks 6 days to 26 weeks 4 days (almost 5 days ) delivered at 11:30pm so almost :D

    8. What week were you admitted to the hospital? (if applicable) 24 weeks 6 days.

    9. Were you given steroids to help mature the baby’s lungs? yes, got 2 rounds

    10. Did you ever develop an infection? nope but after I had my daughter they said that my placenta came back with signs of infection but my OB thinks that it was after I ruptured and not as a result of an infection.

    11. What week did you go into labor? 24 weeks 6 days but it was stopped and didn’t go into labor until 26 weeks 4 days when I had her.

    12. How was your baby delivered? classical c-section (emergency!!!)

    13. If you had a vaginal delivery, did you use pain medications? If so, which ones?

    14. What was the ultimate outcome after birth? Elaborate if you’re able. Jayda was born at 1lb 9oz. She did extremely well. ONly on the vent 4 days, CPAP 1 1/2 days, on canullas at a week old until 2 weeks after she came home. Main thing was growing for surgery to correct her jejunal web (intestinal blockage). Came home after 90 days. Had feeding issues/reflux/growing issues and needed feeding tube after 3 months of being home. We found a reflux med that worked and she is eating great ever since. She is now 15 months old and is running around and just an active healthy little girl! We are very lucky and don’t take anything for granted! My OB also said that I only have a 5% chance of delivering early again because she was born early due to her birth defect.

They estimated that his lungs stopped maturing around 24 weeks. He needed a cocktail of drugs just to get him off the oscillator. Baby B (not ruptured) had a smoother NICU ride. Baby A stayed in the NICU for 99 days and Baby B for 72 days. Both came home on oxygen and monitors until they were 5 months old (actual age). They both had very mild ROP but it corrected itself. Both also had bad acid reflux. They are now almost 2-1/2-they are both pretty tiny, but very healthy. They received early intervention until they turned 26 months but have been discharged because they are meeting all their milestones.

    15. If you had a positive outcome, did you pump or breastfeed your baby? If so, for how long? I did pump the entire time in the NICU and tried for about 2 months after they came home. I also tried breastfeeding after the came home. I never produced more than 3-4 oz every time I pumped.
